Description: Construction of new three-story office building in rock-laden site abutting Metro North and Amtrack rail tracks and United Illuminating high-voltage transmission towers.
Highlights:
- Steel and wood frame structure successfully evokes an antique Italian train station, with unique brick façade and detailing, roof lines and entries.
- Site preparation entailed blasting and removing 7,500 cubic yards of rock from property with seismic monitoring of adjacent public transportation and utility structures.
- Controlled expenses by bringing rock crusher on-site to recycle stone for creating parking lot base.
- Managed submissions and approvals of plans with Metro North and United Illuminating.
- Relocated unsightly pole transformers away from property entrance.
Installed extensive storm water drainage system.
Project completed ahead of schedule. Building finished within budget, despite issues posed by rock ledge.
